What is a Wood Light Bulb/Lamp?
 

 Wood light lamp is a special lamp that produces ultraviolet light at a wavelength of 365 nm.
This light stimulates the fluorescence of certain substances, making them visible to the naked eye.

What is a wood light bulb/lamp for?

Wood light lamp is used in dermatology to diagnose various diseases.

The most common uses of this lamp are:

Fungal infections (tinea) :  
Fungal infections such as tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea corporis (body fungus) and tinea capitis (hair fungus) glow yellow-green under Wood's light.

Bacterial infections :
Some bacteria, such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, glow blue-green under Wood's light.

Pigment disorders : 
Pigment disorders such as vitiligo (loss of skin color) and melasma (brown spots on the skin) become more prominent under Wood light.

Porphyria :
Porphyria is a disease that causes a defect in the production of heme pigment. Under Wood light, red coloration can be seen in urine and feces.

Some types of cancer : 
Some skin cancers may appear a different color under Wood's light.
